Dave & Maureen Stick
Spillett Security Group Inc. is locally family owned and operated by Dave Stick. The company was founded in the late ‘80s by Ronald Montgomery who operated it up until his retirement in 2008. Mr. Stick, who had been employed at the company since 1991, acquired the firm in 2008 and has provided leadership and management to Spillett Security operations to present day.
Dave Stick moved from Nova Scotia to Banff in 1991. For the first eight years Dave, was a Security Guard at the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel. Later he was appointed to the position of Assistant Director of Security at the Fairmont Banff Springs. Under the direct supervision of the founder/owner of Spillett and Director of Security at the Fairmont Banff Springs, Dave learned the ins and outs of the entire Spillett operation. Throughout this time Dave took many courses specific to hospitality, leadership and security to prepare for his next role as owner of Spillett Security, and Director of Security for the Fairmont Banff Springs.
Dave now considers the Bow Valley to be home and has settled with his wife Maureen, and two children in Canmore. Maureen works behind the scenes assisting in the Spillett operation by handling many of the administrative duties. The family enjoys much of the summer and winter activities that the valley has to offer.
Spillett History
Today Spillett provides coverage to over 35 hotels and businesses in the Bow Valley.
In its early days, Spillett had one major contract, providing a dedicated security department to the then, Canadian Pacific Banff Springs Hotel. To this day, Spillett is still the provider of the dedicated security team at the now, Fairmont Banff Springs.
In 1999, Spillett began to offer nightly patrol services in the Town of Banff to fill a void found by some of the smaller hotels that did not have enough work to keep a dedicated security guard busy, but wanted someone trained to patrol and respond to incidents when they did arise. In addition to answering the need for security coverage, it also solved issues the hotels were having with the working alone legislation and their night audit personnel.
In 2004, a patrol service was also started in Canmore. Today, Spillett provides coverage to over 35 hotels and businesses in the Bow Valley, including the original patrol clients that got the idea off the ground.
In addition to the Fairmont Banff Springs and the patrols in both Banff and Canmore, Spillett has also provided security coverage to construction sites, commercial buildings, and events.
In 2020, Spillett celebrated 30 years of being there, so their clients and guests can sleep soundly.
