Congrats on your recruitment to the RCMP, Spillett employee Taylor Cruickshank
Spillett would like to congratulate Taylor Cruickshank on her recruitment to the RCMP. Taylor worked with Spillett from Sept. 24, 2019 to May 10, 2021 and is off to RCMP Depot to begin her career with the RCMP.
Here is a bit More about Taylor:
Where were you born? Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada
Where were you living before Banff? Orillia, Ontario, Canada
What did you study in school? I have my Bachelor of Human Services, Police Studies degree.
What are your hobbies? Hiking, Canoeing, Camping.
Why did you come to Banff? Hiking, Canoeing, Camping 🙂 Actually, I woke up from a text message from a friend, asked if I was interested, and it sounded like a fun adventure.
How long have you been here? Over a year and a half.
When you were interviewed you said your goal was to get into the RCMP. Why was that your goal? Always has been. I wanted to be a police officer since I was in the 5th grade, when my karate instructor showed up in his uniform and kicked all of our buts. As I got older, the RCMP had the same morals and aspirations that I wished to achieve and I wanted to serve the whole country, not just a specific area.
And now that you have been accepted into the RCMP and are off to depot, how excited are you? HAHA, 10 out of 10!
What are you most nervous about going off to depot? Running....not going to lie....the running!
What has been your favorite part of living in Banff? Being able to see the Rockies, because I had never been out west before. Living the "Banff Life" has been a lot of fun and it's filled with lots of outdoorsy people and people from all over the world which has been really cool. Where I am from is a pretty small town, so getting to make friends from all over has definitely been a unique experience.
What was your best working experience with Spillett? Definitely the variety of calls in a sense of you never know what a person's temperament is going to be. You would think you were going to a normal unlocking of a door and the next thing you know we're dealing with a domestic and working with the police or other security guards. For me, I think the biggest thing was that I had never worked in a Hotel setting before or with this type of client driven organization so I very quickly had to learn to be the enforcer while keeping The Fairmont side of things in perspective.
What was the strangest thing you encountered while working for Spillett? I had to catch a bat that was flying around inside with a milk crate and then I ran outside with it.
What will you miss the most about Banff? I will miss the people. I have made a lot of really good friends here and it's a pretty cool building I will admit, and you get to meet a lot of different people coming in and out. So, yeah, I'll miss the community I have created here for sure.
Parting words/advice? Have Fun! You are only living once, so the job is serious, but you get to have a lot of fun, meet a lot of people, so take the time to get to know them and don't take life so seriously.
